Life with a newborn

It's been busier than I would like to admit. A new baby can be a lot of work. I thought I would have posted updates with a little more frequency but a nap always seems to be the better option. Scout eats, sleeps and poops. It's not always in that order but it's pretty much just those three things over and over again.

We did do one thing outside of our normal routine. Kellie Larsen of Elements Photography came over to our house and did a photo shoot of Scout and us. Overall I think they turned out pretty good. The Story of Katie Money

Once when Katie Money was a little girl she saw a very scary thing. It had a head like an ant, legs like a spider,and a body like a bee. She ran to get help. But when help came the scary thing was gone and nobody believed such a thing could ever exist. When she got older she wondered if that scary thing was real or if it was just a dream she had dreamed. Then one day Lyle told her he had seen one too. It is called a Jerusalem Cricket. It is real. You can google it. The End.

Home for Christmas

Scout came home on December 23rd just in time for Christmas. She gets to sleep in her brand new bed in her brand new room while wearing her brand new clothes. Wendy thinks that she needs something for Christmas. I think she got more than either of us did already.

I can't say that she is spoiled yet but she does appear to be well on her way. I pity the poor man that will one day marry her. Oh well, we're having fun with it. Who am I to change the inevitable?

Scout is Out

We went in on Friday morning and Wendy was induced. It all went as planned and at 5:30 in the afternoon Scout was born.

She was very quiet. She didn't ever really cry, but Wendy and I did. We were happy to finally see her.


She weighs 6 lbs 8 oz and is 19 inches long. That's on the small side but we like them that way.


She was bright eyed and alert from the get go. I guess there's a lot she needs to see.


Zach took some time to say hello to his sister.


And as always Adam got his turn too.


She's happy to be here and all is going well.

37 weeks

Wendy is considered full-term now and Scout's finishing touches are in the works. We went to the Doctor today and he said Wendy is dialated to a 2 and is 70% effaced. Before labor, the cervix is thick and 0% effaced. During labor the cervix thins out and right before delivery it will become very soft and 100% effaced.

Scout is head down and looking for the door. If she doesn't sneak out before the 21st we are on the schedule for an induction. Wendy will visit the doctor next Wednesday, stop her heparin injections, then have a Birthday party on Friday.

Wendy experienced a slight sensation called `lightening` as the pressure on her ribs decreased and the baby dropped into the final postion for delivery. She thinks it's easier to breathe and eat but there's always a trade off. As the pressure has decreased on her lungs and stomach it has increased exponentially on her bladder. Bathroom stops are common and it's hard to want to leave home. After this week she will be done at work.

Scout is now fully mature and ready to be born. However, she is growing and developing every day. Fat is still being laid down at the rate of half an ounce a day. She is also practicing shallow breaths using amniotic fluid.

Above all this is a time for Wendy to take it easy. Research shows the baby can adversely be affected by stress hormones, but we all know Wendy will be fine. Nothing phases her. All will be good as planned.

I've been busy, really...

It looks like we've got a name. There were some complaints about the voting being unfair. We went with what we liked best. Scout (from "To Kill A Mockingbird") Lyndy (Ly of Lyle and ndy of Wendy) Braegger. I have been working on her room. It needs to be done before she is.

We went up north for Thanksgiving. The only thing worse than taking a long car trip while you are pregnant is being the other person in the car. I was never aware there such a multitude of bathrooms lining I-15. We visited quite a few.

It's been getting closer to Christmas so we decided to go cut a tree but there are not many "Christmas" style trees in our neighborhood. Wendy said she looked everywhere. So we decided to head to Cedar Mountain.

On the way we saw a shoe tree. But it looked to big for our house.

Where there were trees, there was snow. A lot of snow. It made Wendy happy. She thinks it is pretty.

I have a different opinion. I had to go a long way to find the right tree, then I had to cut it down and drag it back. It was a lot of work. I almost had a heart attack. I could have died. I think snow is overrated.

It's the 32 Week Ultrasound

In the Hospital

Wendy gets sad when she has premature contractions. Sometimes they make her wear funny nightgowns and lay in a Craftmatic adjustable bed. They hook her up to machines with lights and bells. They stick needles in her arms and connect tubes to her veins and make her take drugs. The drugs make her happy, but not in a druggy way. They make her happy because they make her contractions stop.

Sometimes the handsome doctor comes in and makes sure she is taking her drugs. He tells her that now she has taken three doses of the drug she can go home. She will not push out the baby today. He will give her pills to take when she goes home. The pills will stop the contractions. There was also a test done in the laboratory. The test said that the baby will not come for at least two more weeks. I hope that laboratory is right. That will make Wendy happy.

Wendy is happy she can go home. Wendy is happy the baby will not come soon. She has many things to prepare for the baby.
